The 2017 Ibis Mojo HD3 Carbon X01 Eagle Complete Mountain Bike embodies just about everything we could want from a modern enduro sled. It's long geometry shreds steep drops with glee, while the boost axle width bumps up stiffness and opens up clearance, netting an even more responsive ride than its predecessor and accommodating tire widths ranging from 2.3 to a plush, plus-sized 2.8in. Ibis caps off this build with SRAM's superlative one-by 12-speed X01 Eagle drivetrain, powerful Guide RSC hydraulic brakes, and a Fox Transfer dropper post for sure handling over all manner of terrain.
By isolating the rear wheel movement from pealing and braking forces, the Mojo HD3's DW-Link suspension platform boasts a plush and linear motion that feels like an even bigger bike yet covers the flats and climbs with a sassy, XC-inspired attitude. The 66.6-degree angle of the tapered head tube takes advantage of that robust suspension and the chassis' stability to hit a steeper angle than most six-inch bikes. Out on in the dirt, that means the DW-Link suspension charges climbs but the aggressive front end doesn't sell you short when dropping in on the descent.
The bike's stubby, 16.9in chainstays and low, 13.5in-high bottom bracket pair with the aforementioned geometry to create an uncommonly agile enduro sled that defies the categorizations that limit so many other bikes. The Mojo HD3 drops in fast on the down side and gets up and goes when the trail kicks up. As an added touch, the shock tune and suspension keep the bottom bracket height at the sag point the same across tire sizes.
Ibis stands by threaded bottom brackets with the Mojo, dismissing any proprietary press-fit systems in favor of a rock-solid, dirt-simple standard that will last for ages. Dual-row angular contact bearings on the drive-side of the linkage require zero preload adjustment and dramatically reduce play compared to standard, sealed bearings, further bolstering the bike's lateral stability and your own sense of control.
