Really Good Spring/Fall Boots

I've seen a few other reviews say they were only good down to the 40s, but I've never had cold toes even down to the low 30s. Well insulated and well built. I'm not crazy about the lacing system. The Boa works well but I'd prefer to control the lower portion of the boot individually from the upper. Having to crank down the fit around the ankle to tighten the boot below isn't ideal. In terms of fit, they're generous width, even in the standard fit. They do run about 1 size small tho.

Great winter boots

I bought these after a cold ride where my feet were almost frostbitten. They work great for me with normal cycling socks down to about 35 F, then work great with thicker socks below that. Of course wind and sun change the equation. I have worn them up to about 50 F and my feet did not overheat. Coldest I've tried was around 30 F with gusty winds and my feet were a bit cold after a few hours but a lot better off than regular shoes with booties. They are tight and a bit of work to get into, but they have loosened up some and are a bit easier now. Check the Lake site for sizing up recommendations. I followed their recommendations versus my Lake road shoes and it worked well. The single BOA buckle works pretty well. More buckles would give a bit better resolution when adjusting the fit but I think the one buckle works well enough. I'm definitely glad I bought them.

Best mountain bike boot!

The MX146 is a terrific midweight boot (20~50F/7~10C). I also have MX303 (replaced with 304) heavy boot (below 20F/-7C). Both boots are very comfortable. Great for hike-a-bike sections. They are waterproof and windproof. I've had the 303 for many years and they are holding up great. I've only had the 146 a couple months, but they appear to have similar build quality. I expect they will last a long time too. When it comes to cycling boots, the flap that covers the front of the boot is a must-have. Other boots I've had leak melting snow and splashing water through the zipper or lace. Also, the cleat slots are sealed whereas other boots are not. These boots keep my feet dry in slushy snow and even when my foot breaks through the frozen creek. My normal shoe size is 45.5. The 303 fit best in size 46. The 146 fit best in size 47. This is with a normal weight sock not thin cycling sock or heavy wool sock. I don't need a heavy sock with either of these boots. They are warm enough with a normal midweight sock.
